Smoking and Dental Disease

We all know that smoking and vaping have a negative impact on our bodies.  They can cause many diseases and, in some cases, fatal conditions.  Many people don’t think about the impact that smoking has on their dental health.

Smoking can cause a number of issues for our teeth and gums.

  • Bad breath
  • Staining of teeth
  • Inflammation of the salivary gland openings on the roof of the mouth
  • Increased build up of plaque and tartar on the teeth
  • Increased loss of bone within the jaw
  • Increased risk of leukoplakia, white patches inside the mouth
  • Severe gum disease
  • Oral Cancers
  • Tooth loss

Smoking can also decrease your sense of taste and smell.

It is most important to take care of your dental health and keep a regular check up with your Dentist and Oral Health Therapist.
