Dental Health Week 2019

Dental Health Week for 2019 is here!  The aim is to educate Australians about the importance of maintaining good oral health. This year, these important messages will be reinforced via the tagline “How’s Your Oral Health Tracking?” Here at Ipswich Dental Care, we love getting on board with dental health week.

Many of us go about our busy lives and don’t often stop to think about the importance of our oral health.  Did you know that over 65% of Australian’s have not been to their dentist in over 2 years?  That is astonishing!!  Often, teeth don’t let us know that there is anything wrong with them, until it is too late.

When tooth ache arrives, it is usually because the dental decay has been left untreated.  This results in the decay burrowing down and entering the pulp and nerve of the tooth.  If patients are seen by the dentist regularly, this dental disease can be avoided.  We believe prevention is better (and less expensive) then cure.

What does the Australian Dental Association Say?

The Australian Dental Association has listed the best ways to avoid dental disease and discomfort.  With the following very simple steps, you can achieve and maintain a healthy smile.

•    Brush twice a day with a toothpaste that contains fluoride.
•    Clean in between teeth at least once a day with floss or an interdental brush.
•    Eat a healthy, balanced diet and limit sugar intake.
•    Regularly visit the dentist for check-ups and preventive treatment.

It was worrying to see some of the stats that have been recorded in this years Dental Health Week also:

•     65% of Australians haven’t seen a dentist in the last two years.
•     50% of Australians brush their teeth only once-a-day.
•     Nearly 40% never floss or clean between their teeth.
•     73% of young people (14-18 years) are consuming too much sugar.

These points are exactly why we like to promote Dental Health Week.  To make every one aware.  To get the message out about the importance of achieving and maintaining good oral health.

So, when was the last time you saw your dentist?  Is it time to make an appointment?
